The Practice

We deliver services from 2 sites;

Main site:                          West Common Lane Teaching Practice, Dorchester Road, Scunthorpe DN17 1YH

Branch site:                       West Common Lane Teaching Practice at Ashby, Ashby Clinic, Collum Avenue, Scunthorpe DN16 2SZ

 

The Practice Premises

The main site operates from a purpose-built building, with designated car parking

for those patients living with disability.  It is a single storey building and is Disability

Discrimination Act compliant.  It has 8 consulting rooms, 2 of which are treatment

rooms.

 

The branch site operates from a multi-purpose building, which also has designated car

parking for those patients living with a disability.  It is a 2-storey building but no

consulting takes place on the first floor.  It has 5 consulting rooms, one of which is a

treatment room.

 

These two premises support our whole practice population.

 

Service Types:

·         Doctors Consultation Service:

Involves doctors working in either premise in a room dedicated for medical consultations; including physical examinations, physiological tests such as blood pressure tests.  Discussions about diagnosis and treatment options and prescribing of medication.  There may be other healthcare professionals, for example nurses, supporting.

·         Doctors Treatment Service:

Involves doctors working in either premise in a room dedicated for medical consultations; including physical examinations, physiological tests such as blood pressure tests.  Discussions about diagnosis and treatment options and prescribing of medication.  They may also undertake minor invasive investigations or procedures such as joint injections.  There may be other healthcare professionals, for example nurses, supporting.

 

The Regulated Activities under CQC are:

         ·   Diagnostic and screening procedures

GP services, for registered patients and temporary patients.

Specific diagnostic procedures eg phlebotomy and cervical screening.

         ·   Family Planning

Provision of all general family planning advice and prescription of oral

contraceptive, emergency contraception.

         ·   Maternity and Midwifery services

General Practice services offered and provided in conjunction with

community midwives for the assessment, treatment and education of

patients in the antenatal period as well as post-delivery.

         ·   Surgical Procedures

         ·   Treatment of disease, disorder or injury

 

Practices Services

Essential Services – the practice provides essential services for people who have health

conditions from which they are expected to recover, chronic disease management and

general management or terminally ill patients.

 

Additional Services – the practice’s additional services include; cervical cytology

screening; contraception services; child health surveillance; maternity services; some

minor surgery procedures; vaccinations and immunisations; phlebotomy service.

 

Enhanced Services – our services include; childhood vaccinations and immunisations;

diabetes management; flu and pneumococcal immunisations; joint injections; NHS

health checks; shingles; learning disability health checks.

 

Practice Hours

The practice is open between the hours of 8am to 6.30pm Monday to Friday.  During this

time there are a wide range of appointments available with all members of the clinical

team.  Appointments can be booked over the phone, online and in person.  Patients can

submit an online request form through our website. 

Out of hour: the telephones are automatically redirected to the out of hours provider

Practice Complaints

All complaints should be made to the Practice Manager.  The practice has a complaints

procedure for managing all complaints.

 

Privacy and Dignity of Patients

The practice adheres to the standards of the Data Protection Act regarding confidential

data and offer a chaperone service to patients.  Please ask at reception when you

attend for your appointment.
