Training

We are a training practice for the Hull and York Medical School which was established in 2003 to meet a national need for more doctors. Students sit with or assist a GP in some surgeries. You will always be informed if you are offered an appointment in one of these teaching sessions and can choose an alternative appointment if you prefer.

Since August 2007 we have had fully qualified doctors on six-month placements as part of their ’Foundation training’ before they enter speciality training. These doctors are at the same stage of their careers as ‘junior’ doctors who would be involved in your care if you were admitted to a hospital ward. They sometimes sit with a GP but, as qualified doctors, will also be able to see and treat patients themselves so you may be offered an appointment with one.

In September 2011 the practice was approved as a Training Practice for Registrars. Registrars are qualified doctors who are pursuing a career in General Practice. They have already undertaken some junior doctor posts in hospital so are fully competent to see patients on their own, although their work will be closely supervised by the GP Partners. Registrars have either a six month or one year placement with the practice.
